Shiva is one of the three gods of the Hindu divine Trinity (Trimurti). He is a complex deity, with 1008 epithets.

Krishna is a Hindu deity, a "complete" avatar (or "incarnation") of the preserver-god, Vishnu.

Krishna is often described and portrayed as an infant or young boy playing a flute as in the Bhagavata Purana, or as a youthful prince giving direction and guidance as in the Bhagavad Gita. The stories of Krishna appear across a broad spectrum of Hindu philosophical and theological traditions. They portray him in various perspectives: a god-child, a prankster, a model lover, a divine hero and the Supreme Being.

Since the 1960s the worship of Krishna has also spread in the West, largely due to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.

The principal scriptures discussing Krishna's story are the Mahabharata, the Harivamsa, the Bhagavata Purana and the Vishnu Purana.

Worship of a deity of Krishna, either in the form of Vasudeva, Bala Krishna or Gopala, can be traced to as early as 4th century BC. Worship of Krishna as svayam bhagavan, or the Supreme Being, known as Krishnaism, arose in the Middle Ages in the context of the bhakti movement.

From the 10th century AD, Krishna became a favourite subject in performing arts and regional traditions of devotion developed for forms of Krishna such as Jagannatha in Orissa, Vithoba in Maharashtra and Shrinathji in Rajasthan.

Since the 1960s the worship of Krishna has also spread in the West, largely due to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.

Manjusri Manjusri Bodhisattva
Ma˝juśrī Pala Dynasty, India, 9th century CE.

Ma˝juśrī is a bodhisattva associated with transcendent wisdom in Mahāyāna Buddhism. In Esoteric Buddhism he is a meditational deity. The Sanskrit name Ma˝juśrī can be translated as "Gentle Glory".

Scholars have identified Ma˝juśrī as the oldest and most significant bodhisattva in Mahāyāna literature. Ma˝juśrī is first referred to in early Mahāyāna texts such as the Praj˝āpāramitā sūtras and through this association very early in the tradition he came to symbolize the embodiment of praj˝ā (transcendent wisdom). In the Lotus Sūtra, Ma˝juśrī also leads the Nāga King's daughter to enlightenment.

Ma˝juśrī is depicted as a male bodhisattva wielding a flaming sword in his right hand, representing the realization of transcendent wisdom which cuts down ignorance and duality. The scripture supported by the lotus held in his left hand is a Praj˝āpāramitā sūtra, representing his attainment of ultimate realization from the blossoming of wisdom.

Ma˝juśrī is often depicted as riding on a blue lion, or sitting on the skin of a lion. This represents the use of wisdom to tame the mind, which is compared to riding or subduing a ferocious lion. He is the deity that helps with meditation.
